Pacer PLUS to come into force 13 December 2020

November 2020

NZTBC Chair Rachel Afeaki-Taumoepeau attended the Ministry Foreign Affairs & Trade Pacific Update to hear from Vangelis Vitalis, Deputy Secretary for Trade and Economic MFAT speak about the global outlook for trade, advancing New Zealand’s trade recovery, and an update on PACER Plus.
PACER Plus is a trade and development agreement that will lower barriers, provide greater certainty for NZ businesses, and raise living standards, create jobs, and increase exports in Pacific Island countries.
Tonga is a signatory and the official repository of the Pacer+ Agreement.

Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) signed

November 2020

RCEP is a multilateral trade agreement between fifteen countries, including New Zealand. It is the world's largest trading bloc, aimed at eliminating a number of tariffs and deepening the integration of Asia-Pacific economies and regional supply chains. It is expected to increase trade and boost productivity, and assist with the economic recovery from the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Heilala Vanilla named Business of the year at Westpack Tauranga Business Awards

The company also won two other awards - The business, Digital & Technology Innovation Award and the Manufacturing and/or Distribution Award.
Heilala Vanilla has been a member of the NZTBC since the establishment of the council, and their Chief Executive Jennifer Boggis is one of our founding Executive members. 
It has been a great honour to work with Heilala Vanilla and this recognition is extremely well deserved.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern named Pacific Person of the Year

January 2020

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been named 'Pacific Person of the Year' by regional publication Islands Business magazine. It is only the second time the title has been given to a person of non-Pacific heritage, with former Australian Prime Minister John Howard being a previous recipient of the honour.
The magazine's editor Samisoni Pareti said each year his publication attempted to look at the person, people, or organisations that had made an impact on the Pacific.
