NZ Tonga Business Relations / COVID 19 Impact
Wednesday 14 October 2020 2.00pm - 3.00pm (NZT)
Speakers HE Tiffany Babington, Paula Taumoepeau, Minoru Nishi, and Kennedy Penitani gave insights from different perspectives on current NZ-Tonga trade relations and how Covid-19 has impacted the trade environment. Challenges, opportunities, and solutions to moving forward were discussed, and discussed opportunities, challenges and solutions to moving forward were discussed, and participants questions were answered.

Understanding Foreign Investment and Diaspora Impact
Wednesday 28 October 2020 2.00pm - 3.00pm (NZT)
Speakers Hon Pauline SiasauCaryl Julia Jones and Saia Latu gave insightful views on Foreign Investment in the NZ-Tonga context and explained the many impacts of the Tonga diaspora. The current situation was evaluated and the future was discussed. Don Mann facilitated this session.

NZ Diplomatic Relations - Celebrating 50 years doing business in Tonga
Wednesday 4 November (Tonga National Day) 2.00pm - 3.00pm (NZT)
This was a one-on-one session with Hon Samiu Kuita Vaipulu and Sione Taufa.

 
NZTBC Bilateral Business Forum
The 2019 Bilateral Business Forum was held on Friday 1 November at the Auckland City Pullman Hotel, from 9.30am to 5.00pm. Rachel Afeaki-Taumoepeau (NZTBC Chair) set the scene, and Lord Fakafanua Speaker of the Legislative Assembly gave the opening Keynote Address, about Tonga Government Bilateral Trade and Investment Opportunities for Tonga. 

Session 1 (10.30am - 12.00pm) focused on Investment for Social Impact Tongan Diaspora. 
Claire Szabo (CEO, HFHNZ), Saia Finau Latu (Managing Director, TROW Group) and Arti Prasad (Senior Investment Strategist, Superannuation Fund NZ) led this session, and engaged in the Q&A Panel Discussion, alongside Lord Fakafanua.


Session 2 (1.00pm - 2.20pm) focused on Biosecurity Matters.
Nacanieli G Waqa (Specialist Advisor for Pacific, NZ Ministry of Primary Industries), Sefita Hao’uli (Country Manager for NZ, Regional Season Employees) and Tavake Barron Afeaki (Tonga Law Lord for His Majesty of Tonga) led this Session and engaged in the Q&A Session.


Session 3 (2.20pm - 2.50pm) was a Private Sector Panel Discussion
This was facilitated by Don Mann (NZTBC Executive and Pacific Co-operation Foundation CEO), with panellists Gretel Toleafoa (Chair, Tonga Business Network), Butch Riechelmann (BR & Associates Ltd) and Shazad Ibnul (Pacific Smart Solar Limited).

We then had a closing Keynote Address from Hon. Shane Jones, Minister for Regional Economic Development Former Pacific Ambassador for Economic Development New Zealand Government, a Q&A opportunity and business networking to finish off the evening.
